Why Seniors Transition Coaching?
"Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get."
~ Forrest Gump
If you’ve ever had a mentor in your life, maybe through school or work, you know how valuable it is to have someone you can talk and relate to. The later stages of your life are no different.
Seniors Transition Coaching is for:
-
The Newly Retired
Everything changes in retirement and for many people, the transition can feel abrupt, even if you’ve been looking forward to the day. After decades of building a career, a routine, reaching milestones, how can you find meaning in retirement? (And no, you don’t need to knit or garden if that’s not your cup of tea!)
-
Older Seniors Transitioning to Assisted Living
Learning to live in a body that needs extra assistance can be an adjustment, especially if it means moving to a retirement home for extra care. Having someone be there and advocate during this transition can ensure that settling into the new environment goes smoothly.
-
Caregivers of Older Seniors
For adults caregiving for their older loved ones, learning to be an advocate while juggling your own career and family can be overwhelming. Coaching can help guide you on how to support your loved ones in ways that are actually helpful to them, while ensuring you aren’t burning yourself out.
-
Is transition coaching the same as life coaching?
Yes! Transition coaching is a type of life coaching, where you are specifically working with a demographic who are experiencing big life changes. In our case, we work with an older demographic who are either retiring or settling into their later years.
-
Why wouldn’t I see a mental health professional instead?
Therapy is important for mental distress. If you are feeling depressed or are having other mental health symptoms, a combination of therapy and coaching can be beneficial to work through this season of your life.

How did AGC Seniors Transition Coaching start?
We started offering this service because there really aren’t many resources that exist for seniors in transition who need a little direction, or even someone to listen to them. Therapy can be beneficial but may not be the right fit (for your needs or budget) and you may feel uncomfortable talking about these feelings with friends and family. Coaching can help!
-
What happens in a typical coaching session?
The first session will involve getting to know each other, what’s unique about you and your lifestyle. We’ll deep-dive into your challenges and explore how coaching can give you clarity and support your goals.

I want my parents or loved ones to use these services. How should I bring this up with them?
Suggesting therapy or coaching to someone you care about requires sensitivity, timing, and genuine concern. Rather than trying to label them yourself, try to instead share your observations. For example, you might say “I’ve noticed you seem really stressed lately” rather than “I think you need help.” Try to also avoid mentioning something during a heated conversation and instead bring it up when you’re both in a good place and enjoying each other’s company. And remember, you can plant the seed, but they also have to be ready to water it.
"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
